What makes Two by Two different? The Education Piece. Two by Two will provide a critical element to the animal welfare movement: the Education Piece. With several award-winning teachers at our helm, we understand how people, especially children, learn. We will develop and implement curriculum to address the companion animal problems facing society. Not only will we personally deliver the curriculum directly to visitors, but directly within the schools to young, impressionable students. Although in varying degrees of implementation, several U.S. states have legislation requiring that humane education is deployed in their schools’ curriculum (IL, WI, CA, NY, ME, MA, NJ, WA, FL, LA, ND, and PA.) At our campus, we’ll eventually teach educators themselves how to effectively teach children the essential elements they need to know to become responsible citizens towards animals. And with our educational expertise, we have a depth of understanding for what teachers will want: make the curriculum interesting, interactive, age-appropriate and easy to integrate into cross-curricular lessons with minimal extra work, and maximum results. For more information, visit our Humane Education section. When do you plan on building the campus? Two by Two Animal Campus is a multi-phased, ten year plan. The following is a tentative timeline of the phases:
Why would people give money to Two by Two Animal Campus when there are so many other worthy causes?Quite simply, Two by Two benefits animals, and benefits people. It has been proven time after time, that people who treat animals properly are kinder and more compassionate citizens. Wayne Pacelle, President of the Humane Society of the US, says: “Humane education is an investment in our future ...young children, especially, have a natural bond with animals and the goal is to nurture that compassionate instinct. Once you instill the values to go with compassionate instinct you have the foundation for good citizenship.” Secondly, for every one person born, there are 15 puppies and 45 kittens born. This mass overpopulation leads to inhumane treatment of animals, which subsequently creates a substantial burden on taxpayers. It costs three times more for a shelter to receive an unwanted animal, house it for a period, and then euthanize it, than it does to spay or neuter the pet from the outset – that doesn’t even count the costs associated with care of the offspring generated by that animal. It is important to specifically identify why we direct our energy to the animal welfare cause, since there are many causes to which people can devote their talents, skills and financial resources. We hold sacred the notion that the animals who love us so unconditionally are entitled to humane treatment. We clearly see solutions to raise our nation to a higher level of thinking than the easy and all-too-common policy of euthanasia. Please consider a donation to Two by Two Anmial Campus. How are the dog cabins and cat cottages a new and innovative way of housing abused and abandoned animals?Dogs and cats will be assigned to a particular log cabin or cottage depending on their age, temperament, and special needs. By placing companion animals in home-like settings, we can observe potential behavior issues (like furniture chewing or furniture scratching), and intervene before it becomes a habit. This type of housing also provides a more people-friendly environment and a less stressful atmosphere for our companion friends. The bottom line: pets in a positive home-like setting will act more like themselves, learn proper behavior in a home, and become more adoptable at a quicker rate.
